Facilitating publication in DAP journals
An important aim of the International Economic History Association (IEHA) is to encourage scholars to archive their data on specialized datahubs, where they will be made available to the academic community. Thus, the IEHA attempts to stimulate journals in economics and (economic, social and demographic) history to develop a DAP-policy (Data Availability Policy), implying that papers can only be published in these journals if their authors make the underlying data available, first to the referees (who can try to test or reproduce the results), and after publication to the scholarly community. For an example, see the policy of the American Economic Review.
The CLIO-INFRA portal offers a service to such journals, which makes it possible to upload datasets that are then archived – and made available to other scholars - via the DANS and/or the CLIO-INFRA website.
The service will offer links of CLIO-INFRA datasets to relevant journal articles, thus creating “enriched publications” (from the point of view of the article) or “enriched datasets” (from the point of view of the data).
A prototype of an “enriched publication” has been built by DANS in the context of the Digital Repository Infrastructure Vision for European Research, DRIVER, which expands on infrastructural components developed in the SURF programme Digital Academic Repositories (DAREnet).
