Harvesting the data in the distributed hubs
The harvesting of the data in the distributed hubs presupposes that their metadata conform to a standard protocol.
Well suited for this is the Open Archives Initiative Object Reuse and Exchange (OAI-ORE) in combination with the Resource Description Framework (RDF). OAI-ORE defines standards for the description and exchange of aggregations of Web resources. The OAI-ORE specifications are based on the ORE Model, which introduces the Resource Map (ReM) that makes it possible to associate an identity with aggregations of resources and make assertions about their structure and semantics. One of the benefits of this approach is that the responsibilities of the different actors are clearly defined. The local hubs will function as the data providers and the central hub will act as a service provider.
