Short biography

Jörg Baten is Professor of economic history at the University of Tübingen and research fellow at the CESifo research network. He has published on the economic history of living standards and education development around the world, and the history of firms and financial markets. He received a number of prizes; in 2002, for example he was awarded the IEHA prize in Buenos Aires for doctoral research. A large number of grants has supported the strong empirical side of his activities. Baten is currently actively participating in the European activies of ‘GlobalEuroNet’ and ‘Gender and Well-Being’ (COST Action 34). As Secretary General of the IEHA (since 2006), he has supported the plans to develop a research infrastructure for social science history and supports global cooperation in empirical long-run research.
