Short biography
Jan Luiten van Zanden (programme manager at IISH and lead hub 3) is Professor of economic history at Utrecht University and senior researcher at the IISH. He has published on the economic history of Western Europe and Indonesia, on global economic history and business history. He received a number of prizes for his publications; in 2003 he was awarded the Spinoza premium, the highest academic distinction in the Netherlands. In 2000 he set up the hub ‘Historical Prices and Wages’ for which a number of grants were acquired. As Secretary General of the IEHA (1998-2006) he has initiated the plans to develop a research infrastructure for social science history; together with Tine de Moor he elaborated these ideas, a.o. related to the role of collaboratories and the data-availability policy of journals. He will act as the overall project leader at the IISH, as well as the leader of WP 2.
