Utrecht University is the largest university in the Netherlands with c. 28,000 students and c. 8,000 members of staff.

The partner of CLIO-INFRA is the Research Institute for History and Culture of the Faculty of Humanities, and in particular the research group on social and economic history led by Prof. Maarten Prak and Prof. Jan Luiten van Zanden. • Economic history of the Middle Ages (two projects) led by Prof. Bas van Bavel: the rise of a market economy in Holland & a comparison of the economic trajectories of Iraq, Northern Italy and Holland.
  • Financial history of the Dutch Republic in international perspective led by Dr. Oscar Gelderblom.
  • Guilds and other forms of corporate collective action (two projects) led by Prof. Maarten Prak and Dr. Tine de Moor (who will also be linked to WP 6).
  • The Spinoza-premium programme on global economic history led by Prof. Jan Luiten van Zanden.
